Long Live Probe

I’m not going to go into details greatly here but, if you haven’t already heard, Probe Records of Slater Street has upped sticks and moved Liverpool Onewards into a brand new shiny home in The Bluecoat with a nice blue door on School Lane. Hopefully they will have just opened for the first day business [...]
Back On The Waterfront

Well if that wasn’t a good weekend to be out on the streets of Liverpool then I don’t know what could be. I spent two days and two nights at the Pier Head watching international dance performances and world class street theatre for nothing whilst ten minutes up the road on Dale Street, more than [...]
Voala

Last night saw the launch of the second On The Waterfront weekend, this one being dance themed, and the opening show could not have been any better! Voala are airborne dance performers and this show in front of the Liver Buildings was absolutely amazing and the second and final show tonight is well worth sacking off all other plans for!
Portishead

I photographed Portishead on numerous occasions around the time of the first two albums including going out on some of the early tours as well as shooting the bands portraits and I’ve just uploaded some of these photographs to the archive though I’m sure there’ll be quite a few more to follow. This photograph here [...]
Ticket To New York

I’ve been shooting quite a few band promos recently and this is Ticket To New York, a Liverpool based duo who have just announced a series of gigs at Jalons on Smithdown Road where they’ll be performing with a string section! More details over at their Facebook site.
Delta Maid

I’ve mentioned Delta Maid once or twice on here before and rightly so because she’s bloody good and this press photo is from the recent record label press session we did. Delta’s from Liverpool, writes amazing songs, is influenced by the likes of Hank Williams, Patsy Cline and a whole host of country and blues [...]
The Wicked Whispers

Two of The Wicked Whispers were in the brilliant psych, garage, mod band Whiskey Headshot so I’m well looking forward to seeing this band play live and their debut gig will be at the Mathew Street Festival on August 29th. More details here. These were shot a couple of weeks ago in a brief Saturday [...]
PIL

Yesterday was a music, more music and photography sort of day which kicked off with a press and artwork photo session in stunning early morning light, on the backstreets of the city centre, with Liverpool folk singer Rob Clarke and ended up with a great documentary on Bothy Ballad singing. Along the way, I spent [...]
Elizabeth Cook

I got to this gig at the Stanley Theatre last Saturday for the end of Piney Gir’s set and caught the in between band banter that was being supplied by host for the evening Bob Harris and he started off talking about Nashville and then moved on to Austin where I’d visited earlier on in [...]
Proms Rehearsal

This is the final post from The Phil’s visit to the BBC Proms on Monday and these were taken during the afternoon rehearsal. It’s now well deserved time off time for Liverpool’s biggest band but watch this space from mid August as I head out to Spain for a few days to photograph the orchestra’s [...]
The Little Secrets

This is The Little Secrets who are a new local band who were supporting Adam Green at Academy O2 the other night. Don’t know much about them as I had to head back upstairs rather sharpish to grimeworld but they did seem to be attracting a fair bit of attention with loads of photographers clambering [...]
Status Quo

With David Gray on Monday and Status Quo on Friday, I’m obviously at the cutting edge of new music in the city! This is Status Quo at last night’s Liverpool Echo Arena Summer pops show and amazingly, since they’ve been playing like forever and probably every night since 1968 or something, it’s the first time [...]
Sasquatch Or Bust

Spike used to go to Erics and, even though I didn’t, he does know some of the people that I know. However, he now lives in America and has recently been made the subject of a short film by American ‘multimedia storyteller’ Tim Matsui
July 4th

In celebration of tomorrow being July 4th, the American Independence Day, the Loose Moose String Band will be playing a gig at 8pm in the Caledonia on Catherine Street and they’re encouraging people to come along dressed as Abraham Lincoln. Not to be missed!! This is Loose Moose Barry playing away in a Nashville backyard [...]
Jamie T

Haven’t been down to Academy O2 for a while but got thrown back in at the deep end last night with Jamie T and a strangely usual night. First up was the photographers contract which wasn’t really a bad one and you’ll be glad to know that Jamie T doesn’t own me, then I sat [...]
Mugstar or not

I’d been to The Bluecoat to see the first song by Sense Of Sound before racing to The Philharmonic for Paloma Faith, whilst also trying to take in Mujeres at the Jacaranda and Mugstar at The Kazamier. All in the space of an hour! Turns out Mugstar weren’t due on but here’s Pete from the [...]
Teenage Kicks part 3
This lot are called The Ladykillers and are a three piece fired up ball of energy who I got to see play upstairs in Hannah’s Bar on Saturday evening after bumping into people who’d already seen them play. It’s one of the best things’ about this sort of music festival, especially if you’ve got yourself [...]
Teenage Kicks part 1

Aside from all of the usual latest must see bands, label and country’s showcases’, conferences, meet and greets, drinks receptions, film screenings, artists talks and aftershows, there’s also another few strings to the Liverpool Sound City armoury and that’s it’s support of young musicians with both performances by younger bands, an education support system and [...]
60 Persons

Hanging out in an open van on Seel Street prior to a late night gig at Heebeejeebees is a member of Scottish band 60 Persons who I never caught later on that night but I did get some good reports back. Check them out here.
Hardman Street

I know they’re not all attending Liverpool Sound City but it did feel like this year’s event had taken over the city in a bigger way and there were more people wandering around from bar to bar and band to band.
Maccabees Fans

Just starting to wade through the Liverpool Sound City edit and this one just hit me as a favourite crowd shot from The Maccabees afternoon show at O2 Academy. Lots more to follow.
SXSW

The guides are now out in the shops, cafes and bars around the city and have the added bonus of having all of the stage times listed already so go get yourselves one and get that marker pen out!
Music on Bold Street part 1

Bold Street has it’s ups and downs but yesterday was very musch an up day for the street and, with the weather picking up, it sort of felt like the festivals and events of spring and summer were on their way.
