Mathew Street Music Festival

Mathew Street Music Festival

Sounding slightly louder than the alarm clock, it was the rain that woke me up yesterday and I fully prepared myself for a wet and windy first day at the Mathew Street Festival but after being there for only 5 minutes there was a miraculous change and we actually got the type of weather we [...]

Basqueing

Basqueing

I’m in northern Spain with The Phil and currently awaiting hotel style internet to upload photographs to the Echo picture desk. I’ve been to see Vasily lead the band in a brilliant start to a Spanish tour and along the way, and it’s only been 24 hours, I’ve climbed a hill in a town that [...]

Liverpool Pride

Liverpool Pride

I posted a few photographs up on Sunday from Liverpool’s first Pride event but here’s a bigger gallery from the day, though it’s only a fraction of what went on that day as I was mostly down On The Waterfront

Back On The Waterfront

Back On The Waterfront

Well if that wasn’t a good weekend to be out on the streets of Liverpool then I don’t know what could be.  I spent two days and two nights at the Pier Head watching international dance performances and world class street theatre for nothing whilst ten minutes up the road on Dale Street, more than [...]

On The Waterfront

On The Waterfront

On The Waterfront lived up to it’s name yesterday with dance performances that included water pistols and a company from Spain called Factoria Mascaro who kicked water into the audience, and I got a soaking too, from a purpose built elevated pool. Their show is incredible and very very funny and on again today at [...]

Voala

Voala

Last night saw the launch of the second On The Waterfront weekend, this one being dance themed, and the opening show could not have been any better! Voala are airborne dance performers and this show in front of the Liver Buildings was absolutely amazing and the second and final show tonight is well worth sacking off all other plans for!

Queen Victoria

Queen Victoria

I was booked yesterday to photograph the plaque exchange ceremony onboard Cunard’s Queen Victoria and some of the quay entertainment provided for visitors but I didn’t know I was going to end up on a Royal visit, documenting a ship’s tour for Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall!  I’ve only been on a royal visit once [...]

Abseiling part 2 (and a duck race)

Abseiling part 2 (and a duck race)

The second abseil event this weekend in Liverpool was the last one ever to be down the side of the Liver Building and, if that wasn’t enough, there was also a duck race along the canal featuring 40,000 plastic ducks which was a bit surreal and very funny to say the least!  The charity in [...]

Abseiling part 1

Abseiling part 1

Liverpool went abseiling mad yesterday with not one, but two chances of descending on the outside of two of the city’s iconic buildings.  Whilst the Liver Buildings had it’s last abseiling day, Liverpool Cathedral had it’s first ever day and the event was part of the city’s Beatles Day which meant t-shirts and even wigs [...]

Status Quo

Status Quo

With David Gray on Monday and Status Quo on Friday, I’m obviously at the cutting edge of new music in the city! This is Status Quo at last night’s Liverpool Echo Arena Summer pops show and amazingly, since they’ve been playing like forever and probably every night since 1968 or something, it’s the first time [...]

Sasquatch Or Bust

Sasquatch Or Bust

Spike used to go to Erics and, even though I didn’t, he does know some of the people that I know. However, he now lives in America and has recently been made the subject of a short film by American ‘multimedia storyteller’ Tim Matsui

David Gray

David Gray

Not really my cup of tea but he was wearing very nice shoes and I ain’t gonna argue with 1,200+ David Gray fans, at the O2 Academy in Liverpool, on a Monday night singing ‘Sail away with me honey..’ at full belt!

Walking Through Windows

Walking Through Windows

These photographs are from last week’s production of Walking Through Windows at Liverpool Cathedral which was a brilliant piece of theatre made up of a series of monologues/acts/performances that happened in different parts of the Cathedral and ended up in the Lady Chapel which, this year , is 100 years old.   At the back of [...]

July 4th

July 4th

In celebration of tomorrow being July 4th, the American Independence Day, the Loose Moose String Band will be playing a gig at 8pm in the Caledonia on Catherine Street and they’re encouraging people to come along dressed as Abraham Lincoln.  Not to be missed!!  This is Loose Moose Barry playing away in a Nashville backyard [...]

Rodrigo y Gabriela

Rodrigo y Gabriela

Rodrigo y Gabriela who apparently stand at the crossroads between Spanish flamenco and death metal!

Midlake

Midlake

I missed Midlake’s Williamson Tunnels gig earlier on in the year which according to the band was freezing and according to anybody who went was amazing so this was the first time I’d seen them and I’m converted.

Africa Oyé

Africa Oyé

Some more photographs from Africa Oyé today and the musicians here are Victor Démé from Burkina Faso and Carlou D from Senegal, who was my favourite of the weekend.

Africa? Oh Yeah!!!

Africa? Oh Yeah!!!

So how good was Africa Oyé?  I mean, it’s always been good, and the primary free festival jewel in the Liverpool summer season from where I’m standing, but this year saw amazing weather and a great as ever lineup entice an audience of over 50,000 people into Sefton Park for 16 hours of world music, [...]

Jim & Gurjinder

Jim & Gurjinder

As I said in a previous post, I don’t normally shoot weddings but I’ve actually photographed three over the last month and this was the first one I did which was at Hope Street Hotel and Alma De Cuba. I mean I’ve taken photos at a few in the past but this one just felt [...]

Weddings are like buses

Weddings are like buses

I’ve been to 3 weddings over the last month and actually photographed at them all, which is a bit odd as I’ve always made a point of turning weddings down so apologies to anybody who’s asked in the past!  The turning point was being asked by another photographer and Getty picture editor but since then [...]

Shooting in the dark

Shooting in the dark

As I’m sure you’ll understand, the first photo was taken a few minutes in and the rest were taken during the rest of England’s game on Saturday night.  The venue is the big room in the O2 Academy and the big crowd and massive screen, as well as the drinks promos, made for a brilliant [...]

Lord Mayor’s Pageant Part 2

Lord Mayor's Pageant Part 2

Apart from being just plain old bigger and better, this year’s Lord Mayor’s Pageant also had the weather on it’s side. Last year was pretty wet and grim and trying to catch a shot outside Morefields, I slipped in the rain and fell on me arse but this year was bright and sunny and the elements could do no worse than give me bright red arms and a glowing face for a few hours!

Pageant Of Power

Pageant Of Power

This week has seen Liverpool One’s 2nd Birthday and I’ve mostly been photographing modes of transport.  There’s been charity bike tours from London to Liverpool that ended in the rain outside The Hilton yesterday,  there’s been Helicopter launches and then there was the Pageant Of Power event that saw a whole parade of the fast [...]

Light Night part 2

Light Night part 2

Two weeks after this event I put my hand in my coat pocket and pulled out a piece of golden confetti. ‘See you went to Light Night!’ said the person I was having lunch with.  Filip Gilissen’s installation for the Biennial’s contribution to Light Night was an incredible end to the night down in a [...]
